Highland Drove is the Good Pub Guide Northern Dining Pub of the Year 2006
|
Welcome To The Highland Drove Dating back many hundreds of years, the Highland Drove is the epitome of the traditional English country inn where good food, good company and a range of welcome drinks can be found. Since taking over the inn in 1998, father and son team Donald and Paul Newton have revived its fortunes as a social hub for Great Salkeld and the surrounding villages and have established a deserved reputation for the high quality of the food served. Traditional local dishes are featured and the specials are changed on a daily basis according to the freshness of the locally purchased meat, game and fish. On any day you will find sea bass, brill and wild salmon sharing the menu with mallard, innovative chicken dishes and succulent steaks from herds reared and traditionally matured in Cumbria. Despite the excellence of its food, the Highland Drove is still essentially a pub where locals come to enjoy the wide range of cask conditioned real ales, a wide range of other beers and ciders, plus an enviable selection of wines. As befits a traditional country inn, accommodation is available with five modernised en-suite rooms available for visitors and the traditional English breakfast will set you up for a day of visiting the local countryside. |
